The Langham Hotel’s Executive King Room with Club Access is a luxurious experience for any couple. We did a staycation at the hotel and really enjoyed it. The desire to stay at the hotel started when I was in my teens, when I saw the hotel for the first time in 2005. As part of a school excursion, we stayed across the road at the Travelodge and thought it would nice to one day be a guest that at this establishment. That day eventually came. More importantly, I decided it would be a day for my better half (and I would just tag along for the experience).
Our room gave us access to Club Lounge, which was nice and cosy, and all of the hotel’s fantastic amenities, such as the pool, gym and spa. The Club Lounge offered afternoon tea from 3:00 to 5:00 pm and canapes from 5:00 pm onward until 9:00 pm. From both our room and the Club Lounge, we could capture a view of Melbourne’s central business district. The food was excellent. In particular, my wife enjoyed the scones and selection of cakes that were served during afternoon tea.
Our room had some really nice amenities and was spacious enough for the two of us. The view of the city from the room was excellent and even in the space I was able to do some push-ups while listening to the shows on cable television.
The Club Lounge is on the higher floors of the hotel. Though, it is not the highest floor for a Club Lounge in Melbourne, that honor goes to the Sofitel. Nevertheless, the views were good. The lounge had great seating, windows for views and was well serviced. All servers were excellent and we felt well looked after throughout our time in the lounge.
The food was excellent and there was plenty of variety for all the sessions. Between afternoon tea and evening canapes, I think their afternoon tea was better. So far, I think their afternoon tea experience is the best that Melbourne has to offer.
We came back to the Club Lounge at night and realized it tended to attract an older demographic. Nevertheless, the peace and quiet and the service we received was really nice and enjoyable. We talked over cups of coffee and tea in hand, while gazing out into the city’s night. Tranquility at its finest.
We thought the pool, spa and gym were fantastic facilities. Not every hotel in Melbourne offers both a swimming pool and spa. The only other hotel that comes to mind with both these facilities is Crown Towers. Langham’s spa was a highlight since it wasn’t too hot and there was the option to turn on the bubble stream. The cool thing was that turning on the bubbles also changed the color of the pool from a clear color to a milky color. There is the option to pay for a spa/massage treatment, which you can purchase at the counter before entering the pool and spa area.
From the spa, you can catch a glimpse of the city through the big windows. If you don’t want to stay behind the windows, you can walk out and enjoy the fresh air and look up into the night sky.
The hotel offers free pressing of three garments and shoe shining. I actually brought my suit (jacket and pants) and should have asked if it was free. Unfortunately, suit jacket and pants aren’t included in the free pressing and were added to my bill on checkout. The pressing of my business shirt and shining of my shoes were free though. I should have asked, but the attendant was too hospitable and kind that it didn’t come to mind. I really like the way they gave me back my clothes with their embroiled bags and hangers. Great service.
Breakfast was excellent. It is definitely a highlight when we stayed at the hotel. We had the choice of breakfast at Melba, which was fantastic, or the Club Lounge. We choice the famous Melba, which also goes buffet lunch and dinner, and were super impressed with the food and the choice. Look out for the natural honeycomb – it is really cool.
We thought Melba was an excellent way to cap off our experience at the hotel. I think the Langham is one of the better hotels in Melbourne.
We did experience the breakfast at the Club Lounge, but is the same food but a smaller selection. The advantage of breakfast in the Club Lounge is that it is more peaceful and quiet.
The Langham is located at 1 Southgate Avenue, Melbourne, Victoria 3006, Australia:
