Kung Fu Tea is an import from America. Made famous, particularly in the States, thanks to its celebrity endorsements from Hollywood and politicians. Sadly in Australia, the same level of fame and popularity hasn’t quite hit the same beats. My disappointment was the closure of their franchise in Springvale, which didn’t seem to draw a sufficient crowd. (Probably due to its name and maybe because there are already eight or more boba stores on the same strip and it’s hard to compete.)
Don’t let the name, Kung Fu Tea, fool you. It has little to do with Kung Fu, other than the fact that its drinks really do “kick butt”. I’ve had the pleasure of experiencing their drinks at the Southern Cross Station and Springvale location.
I am particularly happy with their WOW drinks, like Milk Strike, Milk Cap and Yogurt options. They do some incredible matcha, coconut, oreo and red bean milk tea drinks. You have got to try them. Plus, some of their options include a hot option. Like many other boba vendors, they allow you to choose your toppings, sugar level and ice levels.
I tried their Milk Strike Cocoa WOW milk tea for AUD$7.30 and was super happy with it. It is one of the better boba franchises out there and I’m glad I can try it in Melbourne.
Kung Fu Tea is located within Southern Cross Station along Spencer Street and can be spotted at the cross section with Bourke Street. The address is Southern Cross Station, Spencer Street, Melbourne VIC 3008:
